Cloud DevOps Engineer (AWS/Linux)

Position Overview

We are an innovative startup in the FinTech space is looking for AWS talent who can help us re-make the world of payments, building the digital bridges from any monetary source and delivering it to any payments destination.  The ideal candidate will be a person with a strong technical background in both AWS and Linux who possess strong experience in CloudFormation, Custom Resource Development, Linux automation, and a hands-on background with tools related to management of infrastructure as code (such as command-line git activities like managing pull requests and branch merges.)  It also presents great leadership development opportunities including review and coaching opportunities for early career staff, project lead responsibility including coordinating the work of others who are detailed to contribute to the project, and the opportunity to guide and influence the future of our platform architecture, our stack, and our tool set!

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current cloud environments and associated templates
  • Handle release and change management for deployed environments
  • Review, test, and merge new features from junior-level staff
  • Coach and mentor junior-level staff to improve technical skill and impart best practices and patterns
  • Implement new infrastructure using CloudFormation and similar methods of AWS infrastructure automation
  • Develop new infrastructure capabilities using CloudFormation custom resources where needed
  • Integrate 3rdparty tools and capabilities with AWS Infrastructure
  • Facilitate conversion of the platform to a container-based compute model, and the roll-out of a new container orchestration approach
  • Lead the development of key infrastructure features being added to our platform
  • Lead key cloud projects related to new and existing client deployments
  • Handle escalations related to AWS infrastructure that were unable to be solved by the Production Support team or more junior-level cloud engineering staff

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of Linux/Unix experience (e.g.: Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS) with ability to demonstrate advanced-level expertise working with the shell and command line tools, performing system analysis and tuning, file system management, provisioning, and package management
  • Deep expertise with virtualized hardware and infrastructure
  • At least 2 years of experience focused on working in AWS
  • Deep expertise with web-related services and software (web/app servers like apache, nginx, nodejs, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and networking fundamentals
  • 3+ years of administrative/automation scripting with bash is required
  • Minimum one year of experience scripting in at least one high level scripting language like python, ruby, or perl is required
  • At least 1 year of experience automating AWS Infrastructure with CloudFormation is required
  • Must be willing to support an after-hours on call rotation (for incident escalations only)
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure
  • Need to be highly motivated to learn new things
  • Need to have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective prioritization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver upon project commitments independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Kubernetes is a huge plus
  • Experience with EKS is a huge plus
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS is preferred
  • 7+ years of experience with Linux/Unix is preferred
  • Experience developing CloudFormation Custom Resources is a big plus
  • Experience building, automating, and/or maintaining software deployment pipelines is a big plus
  • Experience with python specifically is a big plus
  • Experience with the python boto3 library is a big plus
  • 2+ years of experience using configuration management/automation tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with Information Security/Information Risk and related due-diligence is a plus
  • Experience with building or operating PCI-compliant environments is a plus
  • Invisibility (or any other superpower) is a huge plus
